Kingsroad.co.uk is successfully engaging a local audience and generating leads for local businesses.  Its use of social media and focus on the needs of its commercial clients has earned it a place on the 2012 Media Pioneers shortlist.


Kingsroad.co.uk is a local website covering a highly targeted and geographically defined area in London. It is a road and famous shopping street in London. It stretches across Chelsea and Fulham in London and runs for almost two miles.

Media Street Apps, the company which publishes Kingsroad.co.uk, was founded by Jonathan Lloyd. He explains why Kingsroad.co.uk was launched and how it is achieving success.


Why launch Kingsroad.co.uk?



With so much going on locally - both off and online - there was no website to bring together all the relevant information; local business information, reviews, offers, news, weather and what’s on listings.

The first version of Kingsroad.co.uk was launched on the Media Street web app. It is the name of the web application Media Street Apps is developing to run local websites – using Kingsroad.co.uk as its case study site.

Starting with the local business owner



Kingsroad.co.uk works with 100 local clients to support their digital marketing and branding.

Paying business subscribers to the website can claim their business page on Kingsroad.co.uk and add information which is designed to drive enquiries to their website and business.

Local clients can add information like opening times, a telephone number, keywords, photos, social media links and receive email enquiries. Offers can also be published for readers and soon businesses will be able to add their event listings to the website. Clients can also access online reporting so businesses have visibility on what is being generated for them including page views, clicks and click through rates.

Kingsroad.co.uk is successfully supporting the lead generation for local businesses. In some cases the website is a top referrer for web traffic for a local business. One new business to the area has received 10 new clients from it.

A targeted and engaged local audience



One of the most powerful metrics is the level of engagement the website receives on Twitter.

The King’s Road Twitter account receives over 100+ mentions every week (pictured) and continues to grow (currently at over 6000 followers).

For the website, 70 per cent of traffic is local and 30 per cent comes from other continents such as America, Europe and Asia. This has made it a compelling media buy for brands including Net-A-Porter, Ralph Lauren, Boots and Vodafone who have all run display media campaigns on the website.
